Join us for a Beer & Books charity evening with award-winning author Rod Carley as he presents The Great Catsby by Hilton — a gloriously silly feline parody of the F. Scott Fitzgerald classic. All profits from the night go to the Creemore Cats Community and the Georgian Triangle Humane Society.

The Great Catsby by Hilton is an illustrated “catification” of the 1925 classic: a playful parody poking fun at love foiled and ambitions foisted, set within the mad, uncertain world of cats in 1920s Mew York. Jay Catsby, the feral son of impoverished barn cats, has built his kibble fortune selling illegal catnip — and when Nick Cattaway moves in next cat-door, Catsby is only a whisker away from winning back Daisy, the beautiful Persian he lost to the arrogant Tom Cat Burmese two lives ago. Part of the charm is that the book is “written” by Hilton, Rod’s seven-year-old rescue tabby, who narrates as Nick Cattaway — brought to life with twenty full-page colour illustrations by Quebec writer-illustrator Juliette Miron.

Rod Carley is the award-winning author of RUFF (a 2024 national bestseller), Grin Reaping, Kinmount, and A Matter of Will. He has been longlisted for the Leacock Medal for Humour three times, was the Toronto Reference Library’s Spring 2025 Writer in Residence, and is a co-founder of the St. Lawrence Writers Festival. He learned to speak Tabby while minoring in Creative Writing at York University.

The event takes place at Creemore Springs Brewery on Thursday, September 3rd. Doors open at 6:30pm, event starts at 7pm. Rod will read from and talk about the book, followed by a Q&A with Curiosity House owners Joel and Kate, and a signing. There’ll also be raffle prizes drawn on the night, with all raffle proceeds going directly to the charities.
