Beer & Books with Callie Rae O'Reilly – Oct 8, 7pm
Join us for a Beer & Books evening with Callie Rae O'Reilly as she presents her debut memoir, Let Me Down: Reflections on Abuse and Love — a candid, clear-eyed, and ultimately hopeful account of surviving an abusive relationship and finding her way back to herself.
Let Me Down traces a relationship that began when Callie was eighteen — a youthful infatuation with an older photographer that slowly turned into manipulation, control, and violence — and follows her nonlinear path toward healing. Unflinching but full of heart, it gives language to experiences of shame, trauma, consent, and recovery that so many women carry in silence. As journalist Elizabeth Renzetti (author of What She Said) puts it, "A compelling look at the ways that an abusive relationship shaped one young woman's life, told with candour and an open heart."
Callie Rae O'Reilly is a co-founder of the Apostrophe Podcast Company, whose shows have earned more than 75 million listens and include some of Canada's leading podcasts. Let Me Down, published by ECW Press, is her first book — and this is a hometown evening: Callie spent part of her childhood in Creemore and now lives nearby in Meaford.
The event takes place at Creemore Springs Brewery on Thursday, October 8th. Doors open at 6:30pm, event starts at 7pm. Callie will read from and talk about the book, followed by a Q&A with Curiosity House owners Joel and Kate, and a book signing.
